Home

A conversation with a good friend the other day led me to think about this word "home" and what it really means.

"Home is where your rump rests!"
-The Lion King

I think that the true meaning of home, is peace with yourself (if you aren't speaking about the actual physical structure that usually comes to mind for most people). It's an acceptance of who you are and how you fit into the world.

"I have come back again to where I belong; not an enchanted place, but the walls are strong."
- Dorothy H. Rath

I feel most at home when I am being honorable to myself. When I treat myself with respect, and kindess and look at the world as an abundant place, I feel good.

I think that so often people look for excuses as to why they are unhappy. They blame outside circumstances for their troubles. My joy comes from within. I don't expect anyone else to make me happy and I don't allow anyone else to take my happiness. It's an internal job.

"Happiness cannot be traveled to, owned, earned, worn or consumed. Happiness is the spiritual experience of living every minute with love, grace and gratitude." -Denis Waitley

My one wish, for everyone I know and love, and everyone I don't know, and don't love yet is that you take the time each day to be thankful for what you have already. Don't waste your life away focusing on what you think you lack.

"You must be the change you wish to see in the world."
-Mahatma Gandhi

So take time today to love first. Say thank you and mean it. Be kind. And remember that your words, and actions affect everyone around you. Why not do everything you can to make this world a better place? Life is too short for bitterness, anger, grudges and fear. You only get one shot here.

You've got to get up every morning with a smile on your face. And show the world all the love in your heart. Then people gonna treat you better. You're gonna find, yes you will. That you're beautiful as you feel.

-Carole King, "Beautiful"

"It's like you get homesick for a place that doesn't exist. I mean it's like this rite of passage, you know. You won't have this feeling again until you create a new idea of home for yourself, you know, for your kids, for the family you start, it's like a cycle or something. I miss the idea of it. Maybe that's all family really is. A group of people who miss the same imaginary place."
